CLASS Bath - Bath Riverside
Last Thursday evening saw the launch of CLASS Bath, a smart new members only boutique fitness studio situated in the Sovereign Point building on the Bath Riverside development - a short walk West of the city centre. The team behind CLASS are the same guys who set up HEALTH Bath - an exclusive personal training facility nestled just behind the Royal Crescent. So, what can you expect to discover at CLASS?
Firstly, as you step indoors, you will discover delicious and nutritious meals at Vital Café, which serves everything from post-workout recovery smoothies, to seasonal soups and salad boxes. Vital Café is the newest sibling of The Grocer Café and Rooted Café family, which are both local to Bath’s independent restaurant scene. Every bite to eat is freshly prepared, well-balanced and aimed at boosting your energy levels before you hit the ‘Turn and Burn Studio’, or, to give you extra fuel once you’ve burnt off all those calories! Moreover, members and visitors (the Vital Café is open to the public too) will soon be able to enjoy sipping smoothies and tucking into fresh salads on a sunny terrace outdoors which will seat up to 30 diners. I was informed at the launch party that the theme of the terrace will be ‘chalet inspired’, so, watch this space!
These raw granola bars were utterly moreish, ideal if you want to curb any sweet cravings, and in a very healthy way too, I might add!
I was kindly given a brief tour and explanation of what takes place in the aforementioned ‘Turn and Burn Studio’ by experienced Personal Trainer, Joe, and General Manager, Gemma. Members can expect a packed timetable of boutique classes aimed at promoting health and fitness, and here are the following workout programmes currently on offer…
First up, you have ‘Ricochet’ - 5 minutes of intense exercise, and then 5 minutes to recover.
Next up, there’s ‘Double Trouble’, which involves 10 minutes of high tempo activity followed by 10 minutes down-time, and lastly, ‘20/20’, which, you guessed it, means 20 minutes working up that sweat, and then 20 minutes to cool down!
The studio is well-equipped with stationary fitness bikes, benches, medicine balls, battle ropes, weights and ample floor space for squats, lunges, burpees and other floor-based exercises.
As well as being super active, members can enjoy increasing mobility, fitness and enjoy unwinding in the ‘Flow Studio’ next door, which offers a wide variety of yoga programmes curated by the team’s director of yoga, Simona Hernandez, from Yoga Bodhi, Bath.
With floor to ceiling windows with views across the river, and (soon-to-be!) manicured lawns of the new park next door, this is set to be an ideal space to practice the variety of disciplines they have on offer; Yin and Yin Flow, Hatha Flow, Restorative and Gentle Yoga. Both the yoga and fitness studio’s have a maximum capacity of 12 people, enabling members to enjoy bespoke teaching and the opportunity to experience some one-to-one time with their trainer.
Before heading back outdoors feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and ready for the day or evening ahead (the studios will be open from 6.30am – 9pm Monday to Friday, and, 8am - noon at the weekends) members can freshen up in the contemporary shower rooms. Locally sourced toiletries, as well as GHD hair dryers, are available to use, which helpfully means one less thing for you to pack in your gym/work bag!
So, how much does the membership cost, and what’s included? Membership costs £97 per month and provides unlimited access to all classes, seven days a week. Founding members will benefit from a 20% life-time discount and residents of Bath Riverside will also be eligible for discounted membership.
