Amy Conway at Bobbi Brown - Bath
The Bobbi Brown Studio in Bath reminds me of a delicious chocolate box (and no, I don't still have Easter on my mind). Firstly, it's window displays always look as pretty as a picture.
Secondly, and not surprisingly, it's filled with temptation! Let's head indoors and take an irresistible peak at the counters...
From beautiful, shimmering 'Long-Wear Sparkle Sticks' that will make your eyes shine like crushed diamonds (they're on my wish list too!), to gorgeous lipsticks in sumptuous shades. Bobbi Brown have so many swoon-worthy treats for you to explore and test out. Now, I'd be here all day if I listed all the products that I spied and fell in love with whilst visiting the Bath store last week (I've featured my favourite corners of the store further down this post). Instead, I want to introduce you to somebody who certainly knows a thing or two about Bobbi Brown. Meet Amy Conway, a Bobbi Brown Professional Artist (BBPro), who graced the store last Wednesday as part of Bridal Fashion Week. Showcasing her amazing artistry skills and expertise to brides and their bridal parties, Amy demonstrated how to get natural flawless looks.
To celebrate and mark the occasion of Bridal Fashion Week 2018, I was invited over to meet Amy and discuss all things wedding related, which is easily one of my favourite topics. We could have sat and chatted for hours, she was such a delight, and, we soon discovered a mutual love for Jenny Packham bridal wear too! I had a few questions up my sleeve which I couldn't wait to ask Amy...
First up, I was keen to discover how Amy became a Bobbi Brown Professional Artist...
"I first started out as an accountant and book keeper, and remember absolutely hating it and thinking, I'm going to skip this and do something I really love. That was a career change I took at 17. So I began to freelance in my hometown of Portsmouth. I basically helped people out in the theatre with lots of wigs and special effects. I was then working in London because I met somebody who worked backstage at the BBC. I did a little bit of work for Eastenders and Casualty. However, at that age, I wasn't doing it for the money, it was for the experience, but I soon realised I needed something more stable to pay the rent! So I started part-time at Bobbi Brown, (I had all the brushes anyway) working at a counter, taking a step back from special effects. I went into natural, pretty makeup and loved it so much more. I realised it is far more rewarding making someone look great rather than ugly, bruised and battered from special effects makeup! I then moved to London ~3 years in, and worked on the education team. From there, I went onto the artistry team, and then onto the work that I do today."
- Next, I wanted to find out; 'Why Bobbi Brown? What is the appeal of working for this brand?'
"I fell in love with Bobbi Brown's philosophy and her thoughts on makeup. It was all about making someone look their best. At the time, (we're talking 10 years with Bobbi now), natural makeup, which is done so well now, actually wasn't really as massive as it is today. It was still heavy bronzer, dark brown lipstick and things like that. So for me, it was so refreshing to come to a brand where, less is more!"
- With so many beauty brands out there, I wanted to pose the question; 'What differentiates Bobbi Brown from the rest'?
"A lot of brands are currently focusing on natural makeup, given it's doing really well. They are thus going down that route because that's where the trends are heading. I feel Bobbi Brown has stayed true to itself, still continuing to do natural makeup, but simple. One thing I've learnt is, you don't need a lot of make up with Bobbi Brown, you just need key, staple products that make a big difference. A lot of it is actually confidence boosting too. You can come into a Bobbi Brown counter and an artist will educate you on why you do or don't need that certain product. I think sometimes women just need that, as a woman-to-woman confidence and pick-me-up kind of thing. So that's also why I love the brand so much, rather than just putting on makeup, it's a service and an education we provide."
- Lastly, as it was Bridal Fashion Week, I wanted to find out what was happening behind the scenes as a Bobbi Brown Professional Artist...
"So we kicked off this week backstage at Jenny Packham, a great bridal designer who we have worked with for many years because she loves that natural look too. We then come into the stores and meet the brides. Kind of taking runway to reality, to show brides that this is what's happening in the fashion industry right now, and here is how we make it so wearable for everyday, and for your special day too."
After our mini Q&A series, Amy showed me some gorgeous hero products.
After which I enjoyed taking photos of the store, falling in love with far too many products along the way!
Here are swatches of the limited edition 'Long-Wear Sparkle Sticks' that I'm now obsessed with!
I was excited to discover that the Bath Studio offers a brow shaping service which is exclusive to this store. Tucked away upstairs in a private room, (ideal if you like your privacy for pampering moments such as this!) the trained specialists here at Bobbi Brown will help whip your brows into shape. I certainly know where I'll be heading next time I want to fine tune my brows!
I had a great time visiting the Bath Studio and it was really inspiring to discover more about the brand through the eyes of a Bobbi Brown Professional Artist. It was lovely to meet Amy, you should definitely check out her Instagram feed for lots of amazing beauty tips and tricks. I'd like to thank her, and also Amber and the rest of the team at Bobbi Brown in Bath for inviting me over, and for sending me home with lots of fabulous samples too! If I had to pick a favourite from my goodie bag, it would have to be the Illuminating Moisture Balm. Go check it out, it's incredible!
