Le Vignoble - Bath

Get your party poppers at the ready because it's wine o'clock! It's time to put aside those errands, switch off from your work, and get ready to unwind in a fabulously stylish, refreshingly unstuffy wine lounge that has just opened in the heart of Bath. I'll see you there!

Le Vignoble, which is the second venture, after the first opening in Plymouth, of Yannick Loué, launched earlier this week in one of my favourite spots in the city - the trendy shopping quarter of Milsom Place, Bath.

I popped in for a sneak peek before the grand reveal to meet Yannick. Catching up over coffee (it may be a wine bar, but it was 10:30am on a Friday morning after all!) I discovered what attracted Yannick to Bath. In addition, I was keen to learn more about his business, and find out what his venue has to offer Bathonian's and visitors to the city...

Parisian-born Yannick, and his partner, Ele, wanted to kickstart their search for a new premises in the southwest. They primarily focused on Exeter, "but never found anything that ticked the right boxes there," and so their quest took them to Bath, where they stumbled upon Milsom Place. Yannick remarked that discovering the beautiful Georgian buildings here was like; "Wow! This is like being on a holiday in Europe!" Falling in love with the area, they decided to enquire further, and then the rest, they say, is history.

Signed and sealed, it was time to turn their vision into a reality.

Having cleverly transformed a fairly compact unit of two shops into one contemporary, bright and spacious venue at 12/13 Milsom Place, Le Vignoble is sure to be a popular watering hole in Bath. Especially as it ensures a comfortable visit for punters wishing to enjoy conversations over a wide variety of wines.

It's worth pointing out that this will be a place you'll want to visit not only for the wine, but for the interior inspiration too!

What an ingenious chandelier!

The wine bottles are lit up with LEDs, so in the evening they create a wonderful romantic ambience, as I found out at the launch night a couple of days ago. An ideal setting for a date night, Scott and I will be back!...

But let's get back to their wine list (it includes ~300 different wines) which hops all around the world. 25% of the wines are selected from France, with the rest sourced from as far afield as Japan, to as close to home as the Gusbourne Brut Reserve 2013, from Appledore, Kent. We sampled the Gusbourne at Le Vignoble's launch night - it was a stunning English sparkling wine that I'd really recommend, if you haven't tried it already!

What I learnt sets Le Vignoble apart from the vast majority of wine bars across the country, is the ability to select and self-serve your own wine. Being the Ambassadors for Enomatic Wine Dispensers in the southwest, Le Vignoble offers an exciting way to enjoy a wide variety of wines. There are 8 state of the art Enomatic wine dispensers with 32 different wines across the wine serving system installed on-site. Punters are guaranteed to experience "wine {that} is delivered in tip top condition, every time."

So how do these machines work?

When you arrive, you receive a wine card, similar to creating a tab at a bar, "where you can consume as little or as much wine as you like, and you pay at the end". Or, you can request your own card to take away that will keep a history of the different wines you have tried previously. Thus, the card becomes your memory, so if you forget what bottles you have tried on a prior visit, you simply have to hand over your card to a member of staff who will locate the information for you on their systems!

The Enomatic wine dispensers give you the choice of a small taster (with prices starting at 70p), a 125ml or a 175ml glass. Ideal if you are not sure whether to opt for a red, white or rosé, or just indecisive like me! In addition, Le Vignoble's approach to wine is "not snobby or pretentious and we don’t like to lecture our customers on what they should be drinking, instead we like to find out what you enjoy and recommend wines that we think you’ll love." Yannick says, "tell us what you know, what you like, and we can direct you from there..."

A great ethos in a lovely setting then, wouldn't you agree?

Wine goes hand in hand with tasty charcuterie and cheese boards, am I right?! ;) Well, we are all in for a treat at Le Vignoble because the meats and cheeses are sourced directly from France, and, the menu will change with every new order they make.
