Where did January go? I felt I blinked and it was February before I knew it! I had grand plans at the beginning of the New Year to immediately give more time to my blog, Twitter and Instagram pages. But then we bought a puppy, and the rest, as they say, is history! Too excited to welcome our new addition into the family fold, I found myself redirecting much of my time and attention on Winnie. However, before our fur baby arrived on the scene, I spent the first couple weeks of 'Veganuary,' not changing my diet or cutting out my favourite foods, but trying a wide variety of fitness classes and activities across Bath.
MoveGB - 'The Every Activity Membership: 1 membership to 1000's of different activities at 100's of different venues,' kindly invited me to help promote their new campaign and mobile App to the readers of my blog. As a result, I have enjoyed a complimentary 1 month's membership, granting me unlimited and unrestricted access to a plethora of venues across Bath, all offering fun and exciting ways to workout. From ballet fusion fitness classes, core stability workouts, to a boxercise session in Royal Victoria Park, I am delighted to say I have now ticked a few fitness 'firsts' off my list! Well, what better way to kickstart 2018? Time to find out what I got up too...
First up, I eased my way into the New Year with a 'Gentle Yoga Class' at Bath Yoga Studio, taught by Bex Bridgford.
As you'll see, I discovered this class via my MoveGB App. You can easily download the App onto your mobile phone from the App Store*. Once you are on the App, simply click 'discover' which will take you to 'what's on now, near me'. From there, a list of activities within a 5 mile radius appears. To make it really easy and straight-forward to use, the App even lists the activities in chronological order. So if you have a particular time of day in mind that you plan to exercise, i.e. your lunch break or after work, then there's no easier way to find out what's on near you, at your most convenient of times too!
*Please note that you can also browse and book activities via MoveGB's website: www.movegb.com
It was such a calming, soothing yoga class thanks to the wonderful way in which Bex made me feel completely at ease on the mat. Her style is 'Ana Forrest Inspired Vinyasa Flow' which works with 'breath, core strength, integrity and spirit'. A restorative start for both mind and body on my MoveGB journey...
A few days later, my abs were put to the test with a 'Core Stability Fitness Class' at Bath Sports and Leisure Centre.
Our PT, Charlie, gave us a great workout using Swiss balls and body weight exercises. The aim? To increase strength, co-ordination and balance.
The class was jam-packed - a telltale sign that Charlie's style and technique proves popular with his clients.
From one high-intensity workout to another...
With some trepidation, I joined an 'Extreme Interval Fitness Class' which was also held at Bath Sports and Leisure Centre. To say I felt like crawling out of this fitness class afterwards would be an understatement! 30 minutes of quick, intense bursts of exercise followed by brief recovery periods. One way to get your heart pumping, that's for sure!
Time to relax I think. So a couple of days later I visited Yoga Bodhi on Bartlett Street for a 'Ballet Fusion Fitness Class' led by Emily.
Completely new to ballet barre, I was really intrigued to discover what Emily had in store for us. We began with a 'non-strict dance conditioning class incorporating basic ballet barre exercises... followed by a variety of pilates, dance movements and stretches.' It was a great introduction to ballet barre and I can't wait to return.
Following on from Ballet Barre, I attended a '75 minute Gentle Yoga' session at Yoga Bodhi too. Our yoga instructor, Emma, was amazing and I enjoyed the class immensely.
I am going to set it as my personal goal to try and do this inversion below by the end of the year! It's a mix between a hand stand and head stand, using the yoga seat to support your neck and arms as you raise your legs up vertically with control. For now, I'll leave it up to the professional to show you how it's done! ;)
Thank you to Emma for such an inspiring class.
I concluded my MoveGB experience with a 'Gloved Up' workout in Royal Victoria Park with PT, Marie-Claire, from Wyld Fitness and Personal Training.
You can't beat exercising in the fresh air...
The workout, which involved 'boxing based drills combined with bodyweight exercises' was a fun way to work up a sweat and release any tension!
I'd thoroughly recommend signing up to MoveGB if you haven't already. With so many fitness venues offering great ways to keep fit and healthy in Bath, it's safe to say you are spoilt for choice! If you are not a Bathonian then don't panic, MoveGB gives access to 1000's of fitness venues across ~21 other cities in the UK too.
Many thanks to Sophie and all the team at MoveGB for kindly giving me the opportunity to discover and promote their fantastic App.
