Kitchen (con)fusion Supper Club with Valeria Caracciolo

Spring has almost settled in around us, bringing with it an abundance of sweet-smelling blossom at every street corner, clusters of golden daffodils spreading out in gardens, parks and woodlands, milder weather, and, of course, more daylight hours - yippee! By Sunday 26th March, when the clocks move forward one hour, it will officially be the start of British Summer Time. OH YES. I am definitely ok with that! Fellow Bathonian and fellow food blogger, Valeria Caracciolo, is also keen to say goodbye to winter. Valeria and Stefano (pictured below) host monthly supper clubs at Bear Pad Café in Bear Flat, Bath, which they started last October. Their most recent Kitchen (con)fusion Supper Club certainly celebrated the start of Spring. A fabulous five course Italian inspired meal entitled; 'Bye Bye Winter,' awaited Scott and I, as we took our seats at the café last Saturday evening...

I was kindly invited by Valeria to review their menu and document the experience. So, take a seat, grab a glass of wine (it is Friday after all!) and join me for a great evening hosted by Valeria and Stefano!

At Kitchen (con)fusion, you will enjoy a truly authentic Italian dining experience. Each of Valeria's dishes took us on a journey throughout Italy...

The evening began with an aperitivo - a homemade non-alcoholic citrus drink and a delicious savoury bite...

Light, perfectly seasoned and a delicious introduction to Valeria's cookery.

We then started our gastronomic journey in Piedmont, a region of North-West Italy, for a 'Savoy Cabbage Roll;' a tasty Savoy cabbage parcel filled with Italian ham and cheese. Freshly steamed and still slightly crunchy...

Perfecto!

Next we travel East to Veneto, where we enjoyed a 'Radicchio and Taleggio Risotto;' creamy risotto perfectly cooked 'al dente' and topped with a rich balsamic glaze, Italian taleggio cheese and pretty pink radicchio leaves...

Onto the capital of Rome, for 'Fried Pecorino with Peas Cream and Bacon'. Again, simple ingredients which had been cleverly put together, bringing us nicely into Spring. The ramekin was like a pot of dreams! Silky smooth pea purée, golden nuggets of deep fried pecorino cheese, and salty bacon...

Accompanied with a dressed salad and warm, homemade focaccia slices... Ideal for dunking into the creamy pea purée!

As conversation filled the room all around us and our dining companions enjoyed their meal just as much as we did, we all fell pretty much silent when our desserts arrived! To conclude, we tucked into an almond and chocolate cake, sampling a dish from Valeria's home region of Campania, a 'Caprese Cake'...

This decadent sweet finish received lots of complimentary "oohs" and "aahs" from around our table!

A chocolatey ending to a meal is always a winner in my eyes!

With just enough room to enjoy a soothing fennel tea, we soon bid our great hosts and fellow diners farewell and made our way back towards the centre of Bath with full tummies and happy memories. I would not hesitate to recommend booking one of Valeria's Kitchen (con)fusion Supper Clubs. But, if you feel you can't wait until Saturday 20th May when Valeria will next be at Bear Pad Café, you could always get in touch to discuss the possibility of Valeria cooking for you at home! Valeria offers a 'Dinner@Home' service, whereby, she will shop, cook and clean your kitchen for you, so you can entertain your guests without even stepping foot into your kitchen! To find out more, please visit Valeria's website.

The cost of the five course meal is £30 pp which doesn't include alcohol. However, you can bring a bottle, or two, and there is no corkage fee. Ideal if you are planning to dine out with friends or family and want to keep costs down.

I would like to say a huge thanks to Valeria and Stefano for their generous hospitality. Scott and I had a wonderful evening and will be sure to recommend this wonderful, local supper club to friends and family!
