Christmas at Lola Swift - Bath

I am so excited that Lola Swift has returned to Bath for the festive season. This year, you can find Lola's beautiful pop-up boutique located in the heart of the city at 3-4 Northumberland Place. I'm sure you will have seen Lola's fabulous festive window display on Milsom Street last Christmas. Now another year has raced by and Lola and her lovely team have set up home in their new premises, adding some festive sparkle and glamour. Having visited their store with my camera last year, I couldn't wait to return once more...

Whilst in-store, I took the opportunity to interview Lola...

The Bathonian Interviews:

Lola Swift - Lola Swift Shop

When and why did you establish Lola Swift?

I started Lola Swift in 1999. Paul Smith, Designers Guild and Selfridges ordered my collection from my final degree show. So from the start, I was in all of the big stores across London and I have carried the brand on from there.

What is the attraction of Northumberland Place as a location for your pop-up boutique in Bath this year?

We really like the location here, it's a street full of independent shops. It's going to be quite interesting to see what the difference of footfall will be like this time around, especially as we are going to be more in the heart of the city and be closer to the Bath Christmas Market.

Have you considered setting up a permanent store here in the city?

We have, but the prices are still too high for rents and business rates in the city. I think we are realistically probably a few years off, but we would really like to do so, and that's our aim moving forward.

Who is your target audience for the Lola Swift brand?

We call it the 'forever 35's'! Ladies from 30+ and, of course, anybody who likes to be fun, fashionable and with a love of colour!

Could you tell me a little bit about your new cashmere collection?

So, we have called the collection the 'Cashmere Sparkle Collection' - we have cashmere wraps, berets and gloves, and more military style plain cashmere sweaters that have a silver or gold sparkle trim.

The knitwear manufacturer that I use in Scotland predominately specialises in cashmere and it's a really, really beautiful quality, extremely soft with a very high thread count. We wanted to support the Scottish knitwear industry and so are using the same company who supply our lambswool.

What is the most popular item/colour in your cashmere range right now?

Our Cashmere Sparkle Wraps are popular as they are really versatile and I would say the 'teal' coloured wraps, which are mixed in with silver thread, is our most popular colour so far this season.

What are you seeing as the latest trends this season in terms of colour and/or accessories?

Chunky knits are really on trend this season. We have a chunky knit range of snoods, neckerchiefs and fingerless gloves. Colour wise... we have said that the lilacs and reds are big this year.

What is your favourite item in your shop?

I love the Red Cashmere Sparkle V Sweater. It fits really well too!

What made you decide to redesign your website and what new features can we expect to find?

We wanted to create a sleek, new image which has everything working efficiently with speed and that is easier to navigate your way around. We felt the old website was just too clunky.

We now have an 'Instashop' section on this website, and everything works much more as a whole. For example, you can find all the knitwear in one collection.

Another new feature is our 'Lola Curates' section. I champion four brands that I source from for the shop and talk about why I have chosen them for the website.

What are your ambitions for Lola Swift going forward?

We are going to hopefully grow the knitwear and clothing range. We are also looking to add different lines, including jumpers and cardigans too. As well as this, we will return to selling wholesale, but I think that we are still about a year away from doing so.
