Dinner by Elly Wentworth at The Brasserie, Lucknam Park - Wiltshire

Do you find you are always left feeling ravenous after an episode of MasterChef: The Professionals? Me too! As a rule of thumb, Scott and I will bring out a selection of tasty nibbles to have on standby, or, plan mealtimes around watching the chefs work their magic! For those of you who are fans of MasterChef, you might be wondering why I am writing about this now, given that the last series ended in late 2016?! Well, whilst watching the latest series, Scott and I were excited to discover that one of the show's finalists, Elly Wentworth, works as a Junior Sous Chef at The Park Restaurant, a Michelin-starred venue just minutes away from Bath. Heading east of the city, to the idyllic Cotswolds countryside, you'll find Elly working at Lucknam Park - a stunning five star hotel located on 500 acres of English parkland. The hotel is also home to The Brasserie; a smart, stylish restaurant situated adjacent to the luxurious spa. Here, for a few special dates in January 2017, Elly took over the restaurant service to host a set dinner menu inspired by her gastronomic journey on MasterChef.

Having watched Elly impress and delight the judges and famous restaurant critics on the TV show, Scott and I couldn't wait to book a table at The Brasserie. Grateful to be in the warmth on a chilly dark night, we took our seats and examined our set menu for the evening...

To begin, we were presented with a crisp glass of prosecco, enjoyed with a couple of canapés...

A warm black olive muffin topped with goats cheese mousse, and, a parmesan fritter with chorizo ketchup. Both light and springy in texture, yet packed full of exquisite flavours. Needless to say, they didn't sit looking pretty for long!

From tasty, cleverly constructed canapés to an exquisite first course; 'Confit Salmon, Apple, Pickled Mooli and Citrus.'

This dish is inspired by Elly's starter which she created in the final of MasterChef. A gloriously succulent, soft portion of salmon which complimented the intricately diced pickled mooli, apple and citrus fruits perfectly!

Moving on to our mains; 'Pork Two Ways, Smoked Potato, Roasted Carrot and Five Spice Jus.' Once more, Elly takes inspiration from her time on MasterChef. Here, we sampled a dish that is influenced by the main course she created in the final stage of knock-out week, cooking at the French Ambassador's Residence in Kensington, London.

If only I could replicate the pork at home, I would forever be in Scott's good books! Beautifully tender meat, with a silky smooth mash and carrot purée...

Once our savoury courses came to an end, desserts arrived to the table. Pretty as a picture, we tucked into Elly's 'Raspberry Cannoli, Peach and Raspberry Salad and Tarragon' which she created in the final round for the judges. Named the "best dessert of the series" by Monica Galetti, we dived straight in to give our verdict too...!

Delicious... We could have eaten two!

The dates at The Brasserie might have ended, but you can still sample Elly Wentworth's cooking as she is hosting three nights at The Park Restaurant (9th, 10th and 23rd February). You can find out more details here.
