Burger & Lobster - Bath

Burger or lobster, burger or lobster, burger or lobster... This was our decision making last Sunday lunchtime, as we sat in one of Bath's most spectacular dining venues. Burger & Lobster has spread its almighty wings and found a new home in Milsom Place, Bath. You'll already find this trendy surf and turf joint over in London, Manchester, Cardiff, Sweden, Kuwait, Dubai and the USA, and now we too can feel like part of the family. If you typically fall into the indecisive camp when it comes to ordering off of a menu, then this restaurant will be right up your street. You literally have four choices: a burger stacked with "three cuts of steak" - cheese and bacon are complimentary, optional extras. Or, there's the choice of freshly steamed or grilled whole lobster. Alternatively, you can opt for a lobster roll; you'll be presented with a warm, toasted brioche roll stuffed to the brim with fresh lobster and a homemade Japanese mayo. To make life even easier, all of the dishes are just £20 each.

I have now dined twice at B & L in Bath, I tried the lobster roll on my first sitting, and I can safely say it was very good. They certainly don't skimp on the lobster filling, so I would highly recommend ordering that if you fancy ploughing through a meaty roll. I would also suggest ordering it if you are a bit squeamish, or, perhaps slightly impatient (there's lots of surgical work to be done with a freshly cooked lobster; picking away at the tail and the claws to retrieve all the hard to get flesh!) On my most recent visit, I went for the steamed lobster which arrives with a leaning tower of skinny fries and a side of salad. Scott opted for the grilled alternative...

However, before I show you the delicious spread of lobster that arrived to our table, I will fill you in on what we slurped... I went for the 'Hawaiian Cooler;' (£3.50) a freshly prepared pineapple, jasmine, bergamot, orange, apple and soda water soft drink. It was refreshing and sweet, my only negative remark would be the stack of ice blocks which watered down the flavour of the drink quite quickly.

A 'Wiper and True Pale Ale' (£4.80) for the Mr...

Before long, our mains arrived, so we rolled up our sleeves, donned our B&L bibs and got to work!...

We both went for the lemon and garlic dressing which was creamy, decadent and so, so good!

I actually had to order some more!

A meal like this isn't for the faint hearted, you've got to get down and dirty with a claw crusher...

But the results are worth it! Tender, sweet, seriously meaty lobster which tastes of the sea and transports you to summer days spent by the coast, or, holidays enjoyed in tropical destinations...

You can see what I mean about the opulent surroundings here! Just check out this statement chandelier and the cavernous, decorative ceiling...

If you are a lover of lobster, or just fancy an epic burger, then gather a handful of friends, family, or, just your other half, and march on down to Burger & Lobster... Be prepared to don a bib, roll up your sleeves and get messy!
